Cardiff Met Sport is proud to have been awarded TASS (Talented Athletes Scholarship Scheme) Accredited status in recognition of our commitment to developing dual-career athletes.

The accreditation was led by our recently appointed Athlete Lifestyle & Education Manager, Katie Payne, and comes at an exciting time of developing our wider support for our student-athletes and enhancing our relationship with TASS.

The programme supports young sportspeople on the talent pathway to have the opportunity to gain qualifications alongside their sporting pursuits, follow other interests, as well as further their personal development.

The accreditation provides academic flexibility and ensures understanding within a university to enable student-athletes to balance both their studies, extra-curricular activity, and sporting careers.

Athlete Lifestyle & Education Manager, Katie Payne said; “We’re proud to have been accredited as a TASS Dual Career University. Not only does this ensure we can provide greater support to student-athletes, but we can also attract more student-athletes to the university in future.

This year, in addition to the accreditation, we will support 2 athletes from British Cycling, one of whom competes in BMX, 2 athletes from Shooting and 1 athlete from Taekwondo, with their provision including Athlete Lifestyle Support, Strength & Conditioning support from Dai Watts and his team and physiotherapy from Head of Physiotherapy, Richard Williams and his team.

All at Cardiff Met Sport are eager to see the athlete support programme develop to ensure more high-performance athletes can benefit in the future.”

While some of the existing services delivered focus solely on developing the young person’s sporting performance, a dual-career support structure and academic flexibility policies that are central to helping the available athletes.
